Southeast Missouri State University will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 15-Oct. 15 with a variety of events and activities commemorating Hispanic heritage and culture.
To mark this year’s celebration, the “Brindando Educacion con Acceso,” or Believing Everyone Can Achieve (BECA) Hispanic/Latino Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation to help support students of Hispanic heritage who have graduated from a United States high school access a college education at Southeast. During this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month events, donations will be accepted to help support the endowment of the scholarship.
You can help support the endowment of the BECA scholarship through donations and attending upcoming events:
Tamales and Tortillas Fundraiser

Help raise funds for the BECA Scholarship by ordering homemade tamales and tortillas. Tamales are $15 per dozen and are available in chicken with green chili, pork or cheese. Tortillas are $5 per dozen. Orders can be submitted online and are due by Oct. 1. Orders will be delivered on Oct. 5.
An Evening of Tapas and Sangria
Oct. 11, 6-8 p.m. River Ridge Winery, County Road 321, Commerce, Missouri
Enjoy Spanish tapas and sangria, listen to Spanish gitano and flamenco music, and enjoy an informative presentation by Dr. Frank Nickell about “When Cape Girardeau was Spanish.” Tickets are $30 per person and all proceeds help endow the BECA Scholarship.
