About the Campaign
The campus community was devastated to learn that the beloved Gum Tree was taken down by a brief, yet destructive storm on the afternoon of May 25, 2018. The former tree was a cercis canadensis, or “redbud” and was the second in its place.
While the Gum Tree is currently out of commission, we hope to find a suitable replacement that will allow the tradition to stick for generations of Southeast students to come.
We’re working on selecting an appropriate tree (likely an actual ‘Gum Tree’ this time) that will hold up to the elements, both natural and manchewed, and a nurturing habitat for the tree. We’re counting on your support to help us make it happen!
Funds raised will be dedicated to the procurement and placement of a hardier tree, much-needed modifications to the tree’s bed, grounds improvements and additional upgrades as funding permits.
