Questions from Donors

What is Impact Southeast?

Impact Southeast is the official crowdfunding platform of Southeast Missouri State University. Impact Southeast promotes projects from across campus to help impact our community.

How can donors participate?

Select the project you want to support, enter the donation amount, and finalize your transaction. Donors can also participate in Impact Southeast by sharing projects and updates through social media.

Is there a minimum donation?

Yes. For gift processing purposes, crowdfunding donations must be no less than $10.

Are any fees taken from my donation?
No. 100% of the donation will go to the project chosen by the donor.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. Donations are received by Southeast Missouri University Foundation and are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Will I receive anything in exchange for my donation?

No goods or services will be provided in exchange for contributions to Impact Southeast projects.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Impact Southeast uses Authorize.net, a PC Level 1-compliant payment processor. Southeast Missouri University Foundation does not store any credit card information.

What if a project doesn’t reach its funding goal?

In the event the goal for a specific crowdfunding project is not met and, as a result, the funds raised cannot be utilized for the originally intended purpose or a purpose consistent with the original intent of the fund, those funds will be transferred to the Annual Fund.

What is the Annual Fund?

The Southeast Annual Fund is a way to participate at Southeast and make a difference for students. Alumni, parents and friends annually renew their commitment to the University, making it possible to take timely advantage of special opportunities to strengthen a Southeast education above what our operating budget allows. Without the support of generous alumni and friends, Southeast would no longer be able to offer a quality education at an affordable price.

Questions from Crowdfundraisers

What kinds of projects can be submitted?

Impact Southeast welcomes applications from faculty, staff and students. Projects must be aligned with the goals of Southeast’s mission and strategic plan.

How do I submit a project?

Submit your online project application here. Project applications are accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis.

Who reviews and approves project applications?

Projects must be proposed through completion of an online application, reviewed by Southeast’s Annual Fund Coordinator, and approved by the Vice President for Advancement.

How long will a project stay live?

Each crowdfunding project will be hosted on Southeast’s website for 60 days. If the project goal is not met within this timeframe, crowdfundraisers are encouraged to continue fundraising efforts; however, Impact Southeast will no longer actively market the project.

What are crowdfundraisers responsible for?

Crowdfundraisers are responsible for promoting their cause, preparing a personal thank-you message to donors, and submitting status updates to Southeast’s Annual Fund Coordinator. Southeast Missouri University Foundation will provide all official tax receipts issued to donors.

Can I fundraise for an individual?

Crowdfundraising projects will not be approved if any of the funds collected are to be used for the benefit of specific individuals.

What if my project is over-funded?

If a project raises more than its stated funding goal, the University will work with the project owner to determine how the surplus can be used to expand or enhance the project.

What if my project doesn’t reach its funding goal?

If a project does not meet its stated funding goal, the University will work with the project owner to determine if the funds raised can be utilized for the originally intended purpose or a purpose consistent with the original intent of the fund.  If not, the funds will be transferred to the Southeast Annual Fund

What is an appropriate funding goal for projects?

Impact Southeast recommends a fundraising goal of between $2,500 and $5,000, 20% of which should be raised prior to submitting an application. We will consider each project’s goal on a case-by-case basis.
